Allison Smith and Joseph Crawford: Above/Below

Above/ Below was inspired while free-diving off the west coast of Haida Gwaii. This multi-media show combines Joseph Crawford's underwater photography, Allison Smith's visual art and written essay, and a short co-created film: Hands in the Water. This exhibit explores the experience of submerging into the underwater world. It explores the cerebral experience of the transition between air and water, and the subsequent change in sound, pressure and movement. The pieces capture the immense energy of the Pacific swell, the rugged terrain and the challenging weather that requires one to surrender to the elements. The exhibit shows the relationship between humans and nature, where humans are apart from nature but still at her mercy. The multiple mediums blending together appeal to different feelings, creating an immersive, engaging experience for the audience.

Jessica Hagen (Mini Gallery): Bring Me Back

This collection is full of painted interpretations of scenes I grew up surrounded by in Smitehrs, BC, scenes I was enamoured with while on a trip exploring north western BC and Haidi Gwaii, and scenes that simply inspire me in a way that rivals all other moments spent in nature. 'Bring Me Back' is my nod to the places I have been and the hope I have fo the places I have yet to explore.

Jessica says "The freedom of nature inspires me-particularly in spaces where it grows wild and unconstrained. I find myself continually drawn in by rustic beauty, and the softness and brilliance of light as it
touches it... I want my paintings to captivate viewers with the unbound splendour the dwells in simple and unexpected places. My desire is to evoke the same sense of awe, hope, peace, and gratitude that I feel as I put colour to canvas".
