What is Found Object art?

‘Found Object’ - sometimes referred to as objet trouvé - describes art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects that are not normally considered materials from which art is made, often because they already have a non-art function. A found object can be natural or man-made, or a fragment of an object, that is found (or sometimes bought) and kept because of some intrinsic interest the artist sees in it. It may be treated as a work of art in itself, as well as provide inspiration for the artist. Found objects may be modified by the artist and presented as art, either more or less intact, or as part of an assemblage (art that is made by assembling disparate elements).

Let your imaginations run wild and have a creative holiday season!

  1. Artists may submit up to TWO artworks. We reserve the right to display just one piece if we have a large number of registrations and are constrained by exhibition space limitations.
  2. Age limit: 13+
  3. Two-dimensional artwork must be submitted in ready-to-hang condition (i.e. with hanging wire or hooks installed)
  4. Collaborative group work is permitted.
  5. Artwork does not have to be for sale. The Gallery’s standard commission rate of 25% members/35% non-members will apply to sales. Memberships are $25, valid April 1-March 30, and must be taken out by the start date of the exhibition.
