Spirit of the North Classical Music Festival plays the art gallery!

We're excited to be one of the venues for the Spirit of the North Classical Music Festival, August 11-13, 2016!

Spirit of the North will be presenting 19 exciting concerts in Smithers. Experience solo acts from internationally-renowned musicians, chamber music, new music concerts, interactive events, and symphony orchestra concerts – all in 3 days! 

This year’s festival features artists from the north and beyond: Juno-nominated violinist Karl Stobbe, former Prince George Symphony Orchestra conductor and concert pianist Les Dala, Smithers’ own Roxi Dykstra back from Europe, alphorn players Keith Berg and Jane Houlden, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra assistant principal violist Stephen Wilkes, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra percussionist Katie Rife, and over 80 musicians from the 2016 Orchestra North Summer Program!

The performances in the Smithers Art Gallery and Central Park Building dance studio are:

1:00pm: Orchestra North Summer Program Winds Showcase – An exciting and varied show of wind ensemble music.
1:50pm: The Kodaly Cello Sonata – Nick Denton-Prozack performs the full unaccompanied Kodaly Sonata, a rarely-heard solo cello masterpiece.
2:30pm: Variations on a Line: a Dance Between Art and Music – What happens when a visual artist and musicians create art together?
3:20pm: The Wonderful Unknown Viola – Come hear the rich tone of renowned violist Steven Wilkes in music of Janacek, Dvorak, and more.
4:15pm: The Solo Violin: Ysaye Sonatas and more – Don’t miss northern BC raised violinist Karl Stobbe performing from his Juno-nominated album!
