Plein-Air Landscape Painting Workshop

Friday April 22-Sunday April 24, 2016

$220 members / $245 non-members

This will be a 3-day (9am-4pm daily) outdoor workshop for intermediate/advanced-level painters. Come dressed for the weather - tarps, hand-warming fires and sheltered locations will be employed if necessary!

The mornings will start with a demo. Students will be working fairly small and will endeavour to complete a couple of paintings a day. The workshop will include discussion of materials and equipment, from home-made to what’s available commercially. Jim will review and discuss artistic conventions relative to light, values, edges, massing and the importance of developing good compositions - the thoughtful methods of painting. On the other hand, he will also be considering the heart of the matter - the aesthetics, the intent to create a bit of poetry at the end of the process.
Jim Glenn’s expertise is in oil and pastel, but other mediums are welcome. Participants should bring their own canvases, easels, paints, brushes, rags and solvent.  A supply list will be provided prior to the workshop.

Jim is a master of natural, impressionistic oil paintings - he has always admired and studied the work of impressionists and post-impressionists such as Degas and Cassatt. Jim has been practising his art for over 30 years; his art is founded in academic training at university and the Vancouver School of Art, and he has also received serious training in the workshop system in Canada and the United States. Jim Glenn currently divides his time between Texada Island and his sailboat along the coast of Mexico.
