“Running with Brushes” acrylic painting workshop
Saturday June 1st, 2-4pm
$50 - all materials supplied
Register at the Gallery
Max 12 participants
Facilitated by Dianne Postman, Micky McCulley & Noreen Spence
Do you want to have more fun with your art?
Are you wanting to develop a more loose and painterly approach to art?
Do you get locked into details and stuck when you are painting?
Are you a complete neophyte who has never picked up a brush but desires to try?
Running with Brushes is the workshop for you!
“Running with Brushes” is a workshop designed to unlock the creative process, release fear, and generate a sense of play. Participants will contribute to a regionally collaborative piece of art - a 5’ x 6’ canvas - which will be auctioned in Terrace in September. In addition, participants will take home both collaborative art and individually created pieces.
CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
We are now inviting artists to participate in the Gallery’s June ceramics exhibition showcasing clay as an art medium. The current working title is "Clay: Beyond Function".
We would like the show to be a representation of clay that goes beyond the traditional functional work that is made on a regular basis. We would like to showcase where you can go with clay - sculpture, lighting, tile, relief, vessels... take it wherever you like!
Non-functional is not a requirement but we would love to see artists push their boundaries!
This exhibition is open to any artist interested, including those who don't particularly work in clay - take it as an opportunity to explore the medium.
The Gallery will be able to show 3–5 pieces per artist.
If you are interested in participating in the show, or if you have any questions, please contact:
Michel Kafer, Exhibition Coordinator
m_kafer@hotmail.com
250-877-1244
Michel may have clay available for sale if you don't have your own supply and may be willing to do some firing if need be too.
Feel free to pass this information on to any artist that you know who might be interested.

This special community centennial exhibition will feature 100 works of art created by the community, representing each year of the Smithers Centennial (1913-2013).
Artists can either pick a centennial year at random from our lucky-dip box, or may select a year of their choice (as long as it is still available), and use this year as a springboard for inspiration for a work of art.
For example, someone could create a work of art representing a local event which happened in the year they chose, or something which was personal to their own lives in that year, or a realistic representation of Smithers or fashion styles in that year, or create an abstract artwork inspired by the something related to the year, and so on... there is no constraint on what you create or how you choose to represent your chosen year. Let your imaginations and creativity run wild!
You can use any medium– painting, drawing, photography, fabric art, collage, ceramics… you could even write a poem or story which is inspired by the year you select. As long as it is visual then the choice is yours!
The exhibition will be held in August during Smithers Centennial Homecoming (show dates: August 7 - September 7, 2013). There will be a Wine & Cheese Opening Reception on Friday August 9, 6pm-9pm.
